We knew the technology had changed. Modern browsers are powerful enough to merge, split, compress, convert, and edit PDFs entirely on your own device — using JavaScript engines like pdf-lib and pdf.js. The file doesn't need to go anywhere. So we built the tools we wished existed: fast, honest, and private by default.
Today 400Tools offers dozens of document tools covering the full PDF workflow — from everyday tasks like merging and compressing to specialized work like OCR, redaction, PDF/A conversion, and AI-powered summarization. The free plan covers the vast majority of what people need. A paid Premium plan exists for heavy users who want higher limits and priority processing — it's how we keep the lights on without selling your data or bombarding you with ads.
We're a small, independent team. We don't have investors demanding growth at all costs, and we answer to our users first.
We don't just promise privacy — we engineer it. When a tool can run in your browser, it does. Server processing is the exception, disclosed clearly, and files are deleted immediately after.

Ads are clearly labeled, kept away from your documents and download buttons, and never track what's inside your files — because we never see your files.
We will never sell your documents, your personal data, or your attention to data brokers. Advertising revenue pays for servers and development; it does not buy influence over how the tools work.
